METAL REVOLUTION 23.06.2008

Finnish Nailed Coil are one of the bands that you will be able to see on Metalcamp in one week in Tolmin/Slovenia. If you haven't cheched yet their music, profile or website then it is the perfect time to finally hear them. Live on Slovenian stage or their music on their websites, your choice.

MR: Hello Nailed Coil. My first questions is about the name. Who came up with it?
Teemu: We just came up with the first part "nailed" and the last part "coil" we took straight from the dictionary. We don't think that the name means anything but it just sounded heavy, that was the point.

MR: And history. Can you tell us more about Nailed Coil begginings?
Teemu: The four guys of us Eero, Aaro, Aki and Teemu has been playing together since 2002 with varying line-ups. Actually Aki was playing drums before Eero joined the band to play guitar. At the same time we started to try out a few drummers and Aki changed to vocals. As we didn't find any proper drummer Eero changed his instrument to drums. In the year 2007 Juissi joined us as the second guitarist that has been hard for us to find.

MR: Talking about the past. What are your memories on the first Nailed Coil show?
Teemu: We played at the local youth center and we totally panicked. That time we had only the four guys having only one guitarist.

MR: There is 5 of you in the band. Can you introduce everybody in few sentences and maybe tell about their side projects if they have them?
Teemu: Eero has played guitar in a few bands before Nailed Coil but the lack of drummers made him to change the instrument. At the moment he's playing also drums in a band called Kansalainen that is making some Finnish pop-rock. Juissi used to play in a band called Retrogression but after his road with the rest of the band ended he joined Nailed Coil. He also sings in band called Fill Yourself.

MR: Did you had any line up changes or name changes perhaps? Or maybe thinking about changes in the future?
Teemu: We are always been Nailed Coil. Before the record we thought about chancing the name but we just thought that it’s not that important. Lead guitarist has changed a few times all other guys are originals.

MR: In Finland there is a lot of bands and a big scene. Has the fact that you are a part of this scene helped you in any way or is it harder for you since the scene over there is so huge?
Teemu: It’s a two barreled gun, in some cases it’s cool to have a lot of friends in the same scene to do gigs with but on the other hand these guys are always competing us.

MR: You will also play at Metalcamp in Slovenia this year. What are your expectations about that festival?
Teemu: We have huge expectations concerning our gig in Metal Camp ´08. We’re going to blown the stage and give the audience a show like nothing they’ve seen before so if you like rough you simple have to be there.

MR: Do you have any other concerts scheduled for this year? Or any country you would really like to play at this or next year?
Teemu: This fall we planned to hit some kind of mini tour maybe over Europe but we'll see. After Metal Camp ´08 there's going to be a few gigs before the tour. We would like to play all over the world no place is better or worse than the other. If we are booked we always deliver.

MR: What about band influences. Who had the biggest impact on you that you decided for this kind of style of metal?
Teemu: There’s not any particular band that look up to cuz all members has their own influences. Here´s a couple of bands that we like: Faith No More, Strapping Young Lad, Testament, Stone, All Shall Perish, Maylene And The Sons of Disaster, In Flames, Atreyu, Bring Me The Horizon, The Devil Wears Prada and a bunch of hardcore bands.

MR: Going through your discography I noticed you have two Ep's, one demo and one promo. Tell us more about those releases. Is there any release that is the favorite for you? Or maybe a song?
Teemu: Every recording is always part of what’s to come and as we've gone further we’ve got better as writers and also as individual musicians. One favorite song that we like from our old stuff is a song called "Bloodred Dream Falls" from our EP Embodiment of unconsciousness it ended up on the album by the name Scars.

MR: And I heard you finished recordings for your first full-length? Can you reveal more secrets about it? Like where did you record it.. how long and things like that?
Teemu: Our first album consists of 11 hard songs. The record is hard going thrash/hardcore metal through and through. We recorded the album in our own studio. We took all the time that we needed. (about six months)

MR: As I always ask this, this time wont be an exception, so where can we get your merchandise? Will you have merch with you also on Metalcamp in case people would like to buy your stuff there?
Teemu: We sell our stuff through the internet (www.nailedcoil.com) When we are on the road we keep our flags up high so you can’t miss us. We have some shirts on sale at metal camp so look for us to get yours.

MR: One of my last questions would be who is in charge of the lyrical part and what are the lyrics mostly about?
Teemu: Eero & Aki on this record. Lyrically it’s a story of a guy who has serious obsessions.

MR: Do you have any video clip for your fans to see it?
Teemu: We have a couple of old videos on youtube and also a new one is on the way.

MR: If you want to say something to people reading this then now is the time.
Teemu: Go through our website, learn the songs by heart. Come to see us at Metal Camp´08 to bang your head and scream your lungs out. We wanna see YOU in the pit! Check out: www.nailedcoil.com and www.myspace.com/nailedcoil
